Bernice Sant 

Lecturing Sectors: Sports & Leisure

Dr. Bernice Sant is a Performance, Sport and Exercise Psychologist and a keen fitness and sport enthusiast who has successfully obtained a Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), an MSc in Sport Psychology also from LJMU, another MSc in Performance Psychology from the University of Edinburgh, a Higher Diploma in Psychology and a B.A. in Psychology and Theatre Studies from the University of Malta (UoM), Levels 2 and 3 in Fitness Instructing, a Diet and Nutrition Certificate, while also, pre-spine surgery, competed in several fitness and CrossFit competitions.

During this time additional courses in the following fields have been successfully achieved: Mental health first aid, Mentor Training, Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support, NSPCC Training (Child Protection in Sport) and a UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) in Sport Course.

Dr. Bernice Sant is a British Psychological Society Chartered Member as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist, Health Care and Professional Council registered and will soon be warranted as a Psychologist from the Malta Psychology Profession Board. Currently she is a Consultant with Learning Works Ltd. for the introduction of the new MSc in International Sport Coaching (collaboration with LJMU) and for the new Mediterranean College of Sports, a supervisor and lecturer at the UoM for B.Sc Sport and Physical Activity students and Masters in Teaching and Learning Physical Education students, a lecturer at MCAST, MF Academy and Learning Works Ltd., and leading a pilot study, alongside two ministries, in relation to healthier eating decisions.

Throughout the past 8 years, her research was based on the fields of Mindfulness in Sports, Sport Injury Anxiety, Injury Rehabilitation in Sports, Resilience, Performance Anxiety, Self-Reflection and Physical Activity Motivation and Behaviour. All of the research areas were chosen purposefully in line with Bernice’s personal life.

As part of the applied work, Dr. Bernice Sant used to work/still working with various athletes and/or organisations, including, and not limited to, LJMU Scholarship Elite Athletes, Liverpool Football Club, Basketball Scotland, Young Driver Excellence Academy, Maltese National Futsal Team, Professional Thai Fighters, and competitive athletes across a lot of different sports such as CrossFit, Athletics, Football, Futsal, Gymnastics, Basketball, among others. Other performance areas which she worked with or is interested to work with involve performing arts, organisational/business, police/military and hospital settings.
