Dr. Alexei Sammut is a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Mental Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta. Previously Alexei had a career in the public sector as a Mental Health Nurse with the Maltese Mental Health Services. Alexei Sammut has completed his Doctorate in Philosophy at Kingston University and St Georges University of London under the supervision of Professor Mary Chambers, Mr Robert Grant and Professor Josianne Scerri.r Sammut is an elected board member of Horatio, European Psychiatric Nurses, representing psychiatric and mental health nurses across Europe and the President of the Maltese Association of Psychiatric Nurses (MAPN). He is actively involved with several European research studies on attitudes towards mental illness and implementation of quality measure tools. Dr Sammut is a published author including scientific papers, book chapters and also the book “Living with Mental Illness” in collaboration with local artist Anthony Calleja.
