Level 4 Award in Mental Health Support and Care

This 3-month Level 4 course developed in conjunction with the Richmond Foundation, is targeted towards individuals who are currently working in a mental health care setting or who are aspiring to take up a career in this sector. It is also ideal for those who who would like to build there knowledge in this area following their successful completion of the mental health first aid course offered by the Richmond Foundation. The course builds on existing knowledge and experience and is aimed at providing the student with advanced knowledge, skills and competences required to work and progress in a caring profession within various settings in the mental health support and care sector. The course provides a specialist work-related programme of study that offers both breadth and depth of and understanding with the practical skills required in the social care sector specifically in the area of mental health.   • Introduction to the context of mental health
  • Ethics in a mental health care setting
  • Communication Skills
  • Managing risk, emergency and crisis in a mental health care setting
  • Best practices in mental health support and care
  • Practical care for persons with a mental health problem
The course includes practical sessions which will normally be held within facilities run by the Richmond Foundation and other partner organisations operating in this sector. This course is earmarked to start during the  academic year 2019/2020 which starts in November.
